Punk Buster is developed to maintain autoupdate files. For cases where the auto-update does not work out, developer has designed a utility called PBSetup.
1. first , try to uninstall punkbuster, but do not plainly erase the pb folder in your battlefield 3 game directory, rather, you should use control panel menu of -program and features- to uninstall it, but if you have erased PB directory in your battlefield 3 games folder without first uninstalling punkbuster appropriately, you must clean the registry before reinstalling new punkbuster
2. switch off firewall, or configure firewall to let punkbuster run auto update
3. For gamers who like to use PBSetup to manually update PunkBuster, you can download the file and it's available for Windows, Linux and Mac OSX. PBSetup will not change Win registry. you should make a folder to place PBSetup and the various files that it will generate and use during operation. 4. or you can also download the PBsetup file from here : http://battlelog-cdn.battlefield.com/public/pbsetup.exeafter starting PBSetup, Accept EvenBalance’s license agreement, then you will have a list of the PunkBuster-enabled games, If Battlefield 3 is not in that list, just add with clicking dropdown box of add game.
